(File Photo/PTI) Coronavirus (Covid-19) Cases and Death Toll in India Live Updates: Amid the continuous rise in the number of coronavirus cases in India, the Union Health Ministry has issued revised ‘Clinical Guidance for Management of Adult COVID-19 Patients.’ The ministry has recommended emergency use authorization (EUA)/off-label use of Tocilizumab drug in case of severe cases of Covid-19. Zydus Cadila’s Virgin has also been granted emergency use authorization (EUA) to treat moderate patients of Covid-19 by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).

The guidelines issued by ICMR-COVID-19 National Task Force, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the Joint Monitoring Group (DGHS) suggested that the medicine should be preferably used 24 to 48 hours of the ICU admission or the onset of the disease. The guidelines issued by the ministry also underlined the importance of physical distancing, indoor use of masks, and strict hand hygiene.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on the COVID-19 situation with chief ministers of 11 states and Union Territories, which reported the maximum number of cases recently; Modi called to work together to fight the pandemic with collective power. PM said that Railways and Air Force are being deployed to reduce the transportation time for oxygen tankers and all state governments need to work together to meet the requirements of life-saving gas and medicines. The prime minister added that the most prominent basis of India’s success during the first wave of the pandemic was our united efforts and united strategy and reiterated that we will have to address this challenge in the same way. He also assured the Centre’s full support to all the states and in this fight.

On oxygen supply, during the high-level meeting with CMs, PM Modi took note of the points raised by the states and said there is a continuous effort to increase oxygen supply, according to a statement issued by his office. He urged all states to work together and coordinate to fulfill requirements relating to medicines and oxygen. He also asked the states to check hoarding and black marketing of oxygen and drugs. Modi said every state should ensure that no oxygen tanker, whether it is meant for any form, is stopped or gets stranded.
